Long Bouquet

By nature, this piece is expressive. It is a beautifully designed image, full of vertical movement, stretching the boundaries of normal design, in that one’s eye must travel over a long vertical expanse to fully see the design elements. From a distance, the piece appears to be a staff or bow, but on closer observation, it is a series of botanical bouquets. Crafting the piece was an exercise in upsetting or swelling the floral elements and tapering the stems to thin delicate scrolls, which are gathered at different points on the main bar with steel collars.

I am inspired by natural forms, and in this piece I use a combination of rough hammered shapes and contrasting delicate scrolls to illustrate the beauty of a floral gathering.
